2023 Breakthroughs & Discoveries Panel
Experts in BRCA-related research and care for a panel discussion focused on advances in screening and treatment for pancreatic cancer, as well as cancer interception and prevention. Panelists for this event included Susan M. Domchek, MD, Executive Director of the Basser Center for BRCA, Fergus J. Couch, PhD, 2023 Basser Global Prize Recipient and chair of the division of Experimental Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Mayo Clinic, Kim A. Reiss, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Penn Medicine and Bryson Katona, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Penn Medicine and member of the leadership team for the Men & BRCA program. Basser YLC's Ride for Research
The YLC hosted our second Ride for Research spin event this year in NYC and Millburn, NJ. 100% of all tickets that were purchased, as well as 100% of all donations to the event, went to support the Basser Center’s YLC Fund!
The Power of Breast Cancer Screening & Genetic Testing in the Black Community
The Basser Center for BRCA's Black & BRCA initiative is teaming up with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) for their Breast Cancer Awareness Impact Day to discuss the importance of both mammogram screening and genetic testing within the black community.
Family Reunions: The Family Health History Conversation
In honor of Black Family Cancer Awareness Week, The Basser Center’s Black & BRCA initiative held a virtual panel discussion focused on the importance of having the family cancer history conversation. Hear from breast cancer previvor Erika Stallings, breast cancer survivors Lyndsay Levingston, and Mica Anders, and Penn Medicine clinical research nurse Jessica Savage-Jones. The discussion will be moderated by Basser Young Leadership Council member Ashley Dedmon.
A BRCA Family Affair: The Emotional Realities of a Lifelong Journey
This Parents Leadership Community event focused on the emotional realities of being a BRCA mutation carrier and the parent of a child who has, or may have, a BRCA mutation. Hear from Basser Center Executive Director Susan Domchek, MD, Basser Parents Leadership Community co-chair and Basser Center Advisory Board member Susan Getz, Basser Center Advisory Board member Heidi Rieger, Basser Young Leadership Council co-chair Jenny Sorin, and Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Social Policy and Practice, Allison Werner-Lin, PhD. The discussion was moderated by journalist Jill Harris.
